Wave Beach Queen Misaka Mikoto

Snapshots: Hitting the beach

Summer so far has mostly consisted of rain and overcast skies for me :/ But I did get one sunny day over the weekend, so I took some figures to the beach. I had some ideas for some beach shots, but unfortunately didn’t prepare well at all.

Daiki Kougyo Ryomou Shimei

Revisiting Daiki Kougyo’s Ryomou Shimei

I’m no Ikkitousen fan, but for some reason I have two Ryomou Shimei figures. The first one I got was Daiki Kougyo’s, mostly because I really like Shunya Yamashita’s interpretation of the design. It was one of my earliest reviews, though, and I don’t much like the result nowadays. So I decided to revisit this figure with some fresher photos.

Questioners Birdcage Girl

Snapshot: Girl in a cage

Sometimes you just take a random photo that you fall in love with. I found this one in the depths of my Lightroom catalog recently, a sweetly vintage-looking snapshot of Sayame by Questioners.

figma Mikasa Ackerman

Snapshot: Mikasa defending the fort

I’ve been doing some location scouting in my spare time as I’m always on the lookout for photogenic areas around Chicago. This shot happens to be at Fort Sheridan, once a Civil War-era fort that has been converted to houses (I’m guessing for very rich people). At the heart of it is this tower. The architecture and theme really fit Attack on Titan well, so I wanted to bring along my figma Mikasa and get some sort of AoT-esque shot. I think this is a site worth revisiting with some more AoT figmas.

Yamato Velvet

Snapshot: Looking back with Velvet

This week’s Figure Friday Challenge involved the theme of looking backward. I do have a few figures with an over the shoulder glance, eventually settling on Yamato’s Velvet for the challenge.

Nendoroid Sakura Miku and Mayoi Hachikuji

Snapshot: Late night gaming

You’ve seen the tiny Shinobu figure I got, but I have a tiny Hachikuji too! Nendoroids aren’t super tiny but they’re small enough to make a 3DS look like a big screen TV. Looks like they’re having some fun with the Mii creator…

Max Factory Misty

Figure Review: Misty Swimsuit ver. by Max Factory

It’s not quite summer officially but it’s sure starting to feel like it around here. So I figured it’s a good time to take a look at Max Factory’s 1/7 Mistral Nereis (Misty), one of the ladies designed by Tony Taka for Shining Hearts. There are a ton of Shining series figures and I’m usually not very interested in them. However Max Factory has a way of convincing me…

Max Factory Mikuzukin

Figure Review: Hatsune Miku Mikuzukin ver. by Max Factory (feat. 360 view!)

I’ve really been liking Max Factory’s releases as of late. As far as figure sculpts go they tend to be the most ambitious – or failing that the sexiest. Their latest scale figure release as of this writing is the Hatsune Miku Mikuzukin version by Grissry Panda. This became one of my favorite Miku designs as soon as I saw the prototype, and I’m happy to say that the final product lives up to my expectations.

Snapshot: Hachikuji and Shinobu at dawn

Since Shinobu and Hachikuji are best buds now, I wanted to get a shot of them at sunrise. Not much to explain here, just exposed for the figures and tried to tolerate the sun in my eye as much as I could. Being able to get these shots is an advantage of having an east-facing apartment.

Marvel Bishoujo Jubilee by Kotobukiya

Figure Review: Marvel Bishoujo Jubilee by Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya’s Bishoujo line has been going for a long time – even longer than I’ve been a collector I think. The quality, especially of the sculpts, has been up and down. Some of them don’t do a good job translating Shunya Yamashita’s designs to 3D while others are less problematic (but that won’t stop fans from nitpicking!). Jubilee was released around late December/January, and the promo shots were promising. Last week I finally decided to pick one up now that I have some cash to put into figures.

figma PLUS school route set

figma PLUS school route set

Oh look I’m actually following through on something I said I’d do for once. As you might know there are two figma PLUS sets. Last time we had a look at the classroom set, now here’s the school route set.

figma PLUS classroom set

figma PLUS classroom set

Good Smile Company has been very good lately at anticipating the needs of collectors. Anticipating… and then charging a fair bit of money. In December they released two diorama sets under the figma PLUS name, both of which I picked up recently at ACen.
